Kawato joined right out of high school and debuted in January 2016. He's had a long rivalry with fellow Young Lion Teruaki Kanemitsu, with the two regularly appearing in opening matches. Kawato incorporates his previous MMA training with high stamina and powerful kicks.
Kawato made strong progress as a Young Lion, and in the Kotetsu Yamamoto Memorial Young Lion Cup at the end of 2017, put together an impressive 4-1 record. His efforts did not go unrecognised, and after Fantasticamania 2018, he was allowed to go on a learning excursion to Mexico. Kawato is currently honing his skills in CMLL.
